
The Edgar Wallace Mysteries
The Edgar Wallace Mysteries is a British second-feature film series mainly produced at Merton Park Studios for Anglo-Amalgamated. There were 48 films in the series, which were released between 1960 and 1965. The series was screened as The Edgar Wallace Mystery Theatre on television in the United States.

A valuable diamond is purchased by a man-about-town who then disappears and his cheque bounces. His solicitor hires a private investigator who seeks to track down the man and his female companion but the fugitive turns up dead.

When a convict escapes from prison, to be re-united with his girlfriend and his stolen £20,000 he left with her for safe keeping, he is in for a series of surprises and then a trip to the seaside and a police chase follows.

When Audrey leaves prison after being framed for jewel theft, she asks stepsister Dora for shelter. Dora takes Audrey to a party hosted hosted by Lacey, her boyfriend. Lacey complains about his neighbor, the mysterious Mr. Malpas, who makes strange noises all night and is never seen. Next day, Audrey gets a job offer from Malpas, triggering a plot involving a missing heir, diamonds and kidnapping.

When a hired server is killed after a party for an artist and his fiancée, and soon after, the girl's hot tempered, disapproving old uncle is murdered too, the police look for a connexion. With his marriage failing, a man hires a German assassin to murder his wife, who he suspects is having an affair. Things seem to go to plan at first, until the assassin decides not to kill the woman, but rather kidnap her, while still collecting his fee for the job. The husband wants proof of the murder (a body) before he pays. Things go wrong for both men when proof is not forthcoming.

Recently released from prison, Arthur Payne meets a benevolent stranger on a train who says he may be able to help him. A few days later, a second stranger arrives at Payne's houseboat, and Payne reluctantly agrees to carry out a no-risk jewel theft for a fee. When the staged burglary turns to murder, Payne realises he's been set up and he goes on the run. All the evidence points towards Payne being the murderer, but one irrefutable fact troubles Inspector Jackson.

A happily married couple plan a vacation in the city to see several stage plays, as the wife is an ex-actress. They arrange to temporarily swap residences with an older couple who want to visit the country. The older couple are actually part of a team of antiques thieves but are interrupted by a friend of the actress-wife. When the cottage couple find there is no city residence, and are told they are probably being robbed, they return home to find everything intact....except their pets and plants were poisoned. Someone seems to be taking advantage of the situation to upset their lives.

In prison, two inmates are getting out soon. One, soon getting out, has been sent up for a heist of several thousand pounds, still not recovered. The other, getting out before him, pumps the other for details of his home life, so he he can assume the other's identity and get to the loot first.

A police detective and a solicitor for the defence unravel the mystery.
