Nils Berg
Biography
Nils Berg, born 9 October 1977 in Gothenburg, Sweden, is a Swedish jazz musician, composer, and multi‑instrumentalist. He was born into a musical family and later moved to Stockholm, where he studied composition, improvisation, and woodwind performance at the Royal Swedish Academy of Music. His work bridges jazz with elements of indie pop and experimental music, and he has performed and recorded both as a bandleader and collaborator. Berg plays tenor saxophone, bass clarinet, flute, electronics, and other instruments. Berg first gained widespread recognition in 2000 when he won the nationwide big band composition competition Jazzverk 2000. In 2004 he formed the quartet The Stoner, and his first solo record was released in 2007, the same year he received the prestigious Jazz in Sweden award. He later founded the innovative ensemble Nils Berg Cinemascope, which blends live jazz performance with video clips from musicians around the world. In addition to his own projects, Berg has collaborated with a wide range of artists and ensembles — from jazz and electronic musicians to pop acts — and he continues to tour internationally. He has also performed with Håkan Hellström’s band and remains active in both recording and live performance.
